Our Culture

As a member of the North Shore Healthcare family, our center’s dedicated healthcare professionals strive to deliver quality care to those who have chosen us. Cornell Health Services’ goal is to create an environment that affords our residents the opportunity to be a partner in the care they receive, to develop trusting relationships with our caregivers, and to reach their highest level of independence. We are passionate about making our center The Right Choice for you or your loved one.

We have been serving the Cornell and surrounding communities since 1984. Our center is located along the beautiful Chippewa River. We are proud to be active members of the Cornell Area Betterment Association.

Cornell recently received a deficiency-free annual survey for 2018.

Leadership Team

Executive Director – Jennifer Burklund

“My favorite thing about working in a skilled nursing facility is knowing that our efforts create a quality environment for our residents to live in and receive care.”

Director of Therapy–Katie Oliver

“My favorite part of working in long-term care and short-term rehabilitation is that it provided the chance to develop lasting relationships with residents and their families. At the same time is extremely rewarding to help residents return to their home safely.”

Social Services and Admissions–Grettchen Shimko

“Having the opportunity to get to know and care for so many wonderful residents makes me grateful I made the transition to long-term care. Advocating for our aging population is something I am very proud of.”

Business Office Manager–Diane Grossman

“I have worked at the Cornell facility as the Business Office Manager for more than 15 years. I believe customer service is key in our industry so I feel very good if I am able to assist our residents and their family as well as the employees on a daily basis.”

Director of Nursing–Bambi Sikora

“I love that I am able to touch someone’s life every day. No two days are the same. This is my home away from home.”

“The wonderful staff treated me like royalty. When I am ready for a nursing home this will be my choice.”

-Edward Kruger

“It is the best. Therapy at Cornell Area Care Center is the best I’ve had.”

-Duane Diamond

“The amount of care received from everyone is really impressive. With the new renovation, it is more like a spa than a nursing home.”

-Olga Wojciuch

“My stay here was very nice. I was treated with good care. The help was wonderful. Therapy did a great job.”

-Marianne Ash

“I was at the VA in Minneapolis after contracting an infection. After I was treated and cured, I was trying to find a place to rehab in the Chippewa area and they found Cornell for me. So I came here and rehabbed from that. I have lived in Wisconsin for 15 years. Prior to that I was in Texas and grew up all over – my dad was in the Navy. I spent a lot of time in California.

I served in the army for 4 years and am a Vietnam Era Veteran, I served stateside during the war. Throughout my time in the army I was based in Texas and California. What I really like about Cornell is how well I got along with everybody. Everybody is very caring and friendly. I would definitely come back here if I ever needed to. The whole nursing staff has been great, the CNAs are great, too.”
